Tips: Find a Job at 4nannies.com

4nannies.com has been helping families find great nannies like you since 1998. There are some easy things you can do to maximize your chances of landing that great job. Please take a few minutes to read over the following before you complete your online registration!

  1.  COMPLETE ONLINE REGISTRATION You must complete the registration before you can apply for jobs.

  2. PROOF READ YOUR COMMENTS! It sounds so basic, but families are put off by misspellings, poor grammar, and not using correct capitalization. Your registration is your opportunity to sell the family on your positive attributes, don't let something like this interfere with your message!

  3. UPLOAD A CURRENT PHOTO. Families are already nervous about hiring a nanny over the Internet, they feel much more comfortable if they know something about how you look - it personalizes your application. Don't know how? Mail us your photo and we will post. Be sure to include your Nanny ID number on the back of the photo.

  4.  INCLUDE REFERENCES in your online profile. Many families only want to look at candidates with references.

  5.   TAKE THE FREE NANNY SKILLS ASSESSMENT: Your assessment results can be linked right back to your online application. What a great way to document your capabilities right away!

  6.  REVIEW SAFE ONLINE JOB SEARCH TIPS: We want your 4nannies.com experience to be safe and rewarding.

  7.  CONTACT FAMILIES YOURSELF! There are many more nanny applicants than there are open jobs. You need to make your self stand out to the family - don't just sit back and wait for things to happen.

  8. RESPOND TO FAMILIES PROMPTLY. Families are contacting multiple nannies and your prompt reply will make an initial good impression. Please check your email daily while you are looking for work. Review the family's online application to determine if this is a possible match. Even if you don't feel that they are the right one for you, respond to their email courteously. Something as simple as "Thanks for considering me. I am pursuing other family opportunities right now." or "I am really looking for a job in Manhattan, Westchester is too far from there."

We revoke the membership of applicants who do not respond to families or maintain working e-mail accounts.

  9.  PRACTICE GOOD INTERVIEWING. Interviewers, whether a family or a nanny agency representative, tend to look for similar characteristics in nanny candidates that create initial good impressions. Among these are a good and appropriate sense of humor, imagination, good communication skills, and eye contact.

  10. HAVE ALL DOCUMENTATION READY. This may include a copy of your High School/College diploma, copies of any child development certifications, Red Cross training, your DMV record, and letters of recommendation from former employers, teachers, pastors. Make sure the letters of recommendation have a phone number where the family may contact the individual. Make up a list of personal and professional references, including name, how you know them, phone number and/or email address and store on your computer. You can then email this to prospective families.

It's OK to ask families for references, particularly if you are considering moving hundreds of miles to live with them! If they already have childcare, ask for the name and number of their current nanny or child care provider and talk to her.

  11. DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS? You will find answers to many questions in the  Nanny Frequently Asked Questions section of this website.

  12. INSIST ON A  WRITTEN WORK AGREEMENT: This is your best protection to insure you and the family are in agreement on hours, wages, responsibilities, vacations and other important issues.

  13. DELETE YOUR RESUME after you have found a job. This will keep you from getting calls and e-mails from prospective families when you are no longer available. Its easy: Log in to your account, mouse over Update Information > Remove Resume and click.
